    Hello - I lead the technology practice at a 40 person firm (single office) evaluating migration to the cloud data storage platform Egnyte. Our anticipated benefits include hardware cost savings, tool consolidation, pivot from a legacy hybrid setup, and integrated AI with the importance of not sacrificing speed, security, and disaster recovery preparedness. Hoping to source any experiences, observations, or feedback from users familiar with the product.

    Hi,

    We are 9 person firm in Seattle and migrated to Egnyte about 3 years ago.  Very happy with the platform.  It can determine if a person is working on a file and block access if needed or allow collaborative work.  Our office works remotely 2 days a week and this platform has made it a seamless experience.  Seems to work well accross platforms - i.e. from ipads to windows desktops.

    This sounds really interesting. I would love to hear about your experience, especially now that you have completed the testing period. I imagine you have discovered additional applications as you rolled Egnyte out across your organization, and it would be great to learn from that journey.

    We migrated to Egnyte in September 2025. This was for about 1,700 employees in four global regions. It took several months to migrate our data and to get our configurations figured out, but their professional services team was great. We're very happy with the results so far. One big caveat is that workshared Revit projects don't work on Egnyte - but if all your projects are on ACC (Autodesk Forma), you're fine. Happy to answer any other specific questions if you have any.

    This is great information, especially since a large portion of our horizontal structures are workshared Revit projects. Would you be open to sharing some lessons learned in a separate meeting? I would be very interested in understanding what worked well and what pitfalls to be aware of as we continue to develop and scale these workflows.

    I was not clear whether or not Revit Workshared projects were supported. I knew this was not possible with consumer cloud storage like OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive. Helpful caveat to point out.

    Hey Dan - We support Revit worksharing in VERY specific instances, but we try to be brutally honest about limitations there.  As you likely know, there are other platforms that technically support Revit worksharing as well, but performance can degrade very quickly if implementation is anything less than perfect.  Without getting into the weeds, RCW is unique, and we have found it beneficial to develop deep integration with ACC/Forma instead of developing an IT-heavy alternative.

    Dan - You might reach out to Justin Hiles, CIO of VLK Architects here in Fort Worth.  He and I just did a session yesterday with Evelyn Lee / Practice of Architecture on their use of AI with Egnyte for the past couple of years (following a couple of years of research and preparation).  He's also recently spoken at our Global Summit.  You are likely familiar with his firm (roughly 275 employees, 2nd-ranked K-12 firm in the US, 6 offices IIRC).  I think they've done a better job than most at getting their data sorted to prepare for AI use cases, and they've done a great job of training/adoption.

    Hi Kevin,
    We have been using Egnyte since 2018 and it was one of the keys to our weathering of the Covid pandemic.  Since then, it absolutely has helped us save costs on hardware.  Our server closet now has very little in it, and we have not worried about server management since deploying Egnyte.  Originally we had a Hybrid solution from Egnyte where there was a server on premises that was synced with Egnyte so we had a physical copy of the data, but we have gone away from that model since Egnyte has been so reliable.  
    We have a hybrid work schedule where we work 2days a week from home, and Egnyte provides seamless access to files for team members and allows for collaboration on documents as well.  We have 3 offices and 75 employees and have no issues with getting everyone access to the project server without having to have VPNs.  There has not been issues with speeds and is really only limited by internet connection speed.  If you are connecting from the office and using high speed ethernet, than you will not notice any difference.  If you are connected on WiFi, you may see a slight delay for large files since Egnyte will need to download the file first, but once that file is cached, it will open just as fast.

    The security has not been an issue, Egnyte gives you plenty of control over who has access to which folders on the server and allows you to create sandboxes for confidential folders such as HR.  We have our user login linked to SSO with Microsoft 365, so we have the same level of two factor authentication set up to login.  This also makes it easy to manage employee access and specifically cutting off employee access when required.  

    Since the files are stored in the cloud, even if you have a disaster in you office that would take out your server, everyone would have uninterrupted access to Egnyte.  We actually have had instances in our studio where we lost internet connection due to construction work in the building, and we were able to simply send everyone home and they were able to continue working without any interruption.  I will also note that accidental file deletion, (or the occasional someone dragging an entire project folder to another folder by accident) is really simple in Egnyte.  It keeps versions of files that allows you to restore a deleted file back to its original folder, or restore an older version of the file if it was accidentally overridden or corrupted.

    We have not utilized the Ai features / haven't upgraded to the tier that includes the real Ai tools, so I can't speak to how well that works.  However, I will say that the search features included with Egnyte are fantastic.  It has personally saved me a lot of time when looking for files.  It is able to search with in files and not just file names, so you can find documents based on its contents.



    As far as other posters comments regarding Revit work sharing, I cannot really speak to that given that our studio uses Archicad, and we are all on MacBooks.  However, any of the Teamwork (Archicad's version of work sharing) is hosted on Archicad's BIMcloud so that everyone has access to files wherever they have access to the internet.  My understanding is the Revit's Forma service will offer that same feature.  I also have seen that there is Revit integration with Egnyte, but to be honest I haven't looked into it since we don't use it.

    Sorry for the long post, but wanted to try and give you specifics on our experience.  I honestly highly recommend Egnyte and encourage you to strongly consider adopting it for your practice.  Let me know if you have any follow up questions.
