The Historic American Buildings Survey of the National Park Service, in collaboration with the Athenaeum of Philadelphia and with Historic Resources Committee of the American Institute of Architects, is pleased to announce a two-day symposium, Documentation by Design, to be held at the Athenaeum, 10-11 November.  The symposium commemorates the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the HABS program, the US government's oldest historic preservation program, as well as 40 years of the Charles E. Peterson Prize Competition, a student competition of measured drawings.  Speakers will discuss the past, present, and future of the HABS program, including the use of new technologies in the building documentation process.  The symposium will also include the award ceremony for the 2023 Peterson Prizes.  In conjunction with the symposium, the Athenaeum is also hosting two exhibits, "Blazing the Trail: The Historic American Buildings Survey Turns 90" and "40 Years of the Charles E. Peterson Prize," featuring four decades of winning student entries and Peterson Prize posters.  AIA CEU credits will be offered.

Information regarding the program, speakers, and registration can be found on the Athenaeum's website:  Event – Detail – The Athenæum of Philadelphia (philaathenaeum.org)
