Notes from the Co-Chairs – Alexis Burck, AIA (SmithGroup) and Sarah Gregory, AIA (Dwell Design Studio)
Welcome to 2025 Design for Aging. Alexis and I are excited to welcome you all to the Environments for Aging (EFA) Conference 2025 in Lexington, KY April 26-29. Please come find us at booth 427. We are looking to increase volunteerism, expand the board in the fall, and continue our efforts to promote and educate around our mission.
· EFA - We are planning a meet-up for our group on Sunday evening, find us at the booth to discuss! If you haven't registered yet, you can find it here: EFA Conference Registration Link. Don't forget to select AIA as your organization. Join us for these sessions:
o Breakfast Operator Panel on intergenerational design will be Monday, April 28 8:00–8:45am, Meeting Room 4/5
o Intergenerational deep dive will be Monday, April 28 9:00–11:15am, Meeting Room 4/5. Join us for hands-on problem solving.
· Student Competition - Our student competition is back up and running! Help us reach future architects early. We will be working with the ACSA to get our competition out to universities in 2025 for a 2026 competition.
· Awards - The Design for Aging Review (DFAR) Award 2025 cycle has now closed, and the jury will be meeting to decide the winners. We are very excited to have the winners and our specialty recognized at the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design in June in Boston.
· AIA Conference on Architecture & Design - We will be at the AIA National conference presenting our Knowledge Community again this year in Boston. Meet us at the Senior Focus: Design for Aging Knowledge Community Open Forum. Registration link: Conference on Architecture Link
· Virtual CEUs- We are targeting 6 virtual presentations again this year. Watch the website and LinkedIn for information and registration links. We are looking at the environment, intergenerational design, affordability, and more.
· Sponsorships – If you are a senior living product or service and are looking for a great sponsorship opportunity to directly connect nationally with the architecture industry, reach out, we have many virtual and in-person events. Here is a link to more information: Sponsorship Page Link
· Research – We are gearing up to dive into environmental impacts on senior living communities. Have you helped a community harden for climate change, seen positive outcomes from these preventative measures? We'd like to hear from you.
