Notes from the Co-Chairs – Alexis Burck, AIA (Smith Group) and Sarah Gregory, AIA (Dwell Design Studio)
Welcome to 2025 Design for Aging. Alexis and I are excited to share our 2025 projects, events, and milestones. This year we are looking to increase volunteerism with the board, expand the board in the fall, and continue our efforts to promote and educate around our mission. Here is an update of what is happening in 2025.
· EFA - Environments for Aging Conference with our Monday morning breakfast Panel featuring the intergenerational task force, in Lexington KY. April 26-29. We are planning a meet up for our group on Monday evening, stay tuned! If you haven’t registered yet, you can find it here EFA Conference Registration Link Don’t forget to select AIA as you organization.
· Student Competition - Our student competition is back up and running, to help us reach future Architects early. We are working with the ACSA to get our competition out to universities in 2025 for a 2026 competition.
· Awards - Our 2024 Awards cycle has now closed, and our jury will be held this spring with awards at AIA nationals in June in Boston. We are very excited to have our winners recognized by the National AIA Design conference.
· AIA National Design Conference - We will be at the AIA National Design Conference presenting our Knowledge Community again this year in Boston. Come out and meet us. Registration link AIA National Design Conference Link
· Virtual CEUs- We are targeting 6 virtual presentations again this year. Watch the website and LinkedIn for information and registration links. We are looking at the environment, intergenerational design, affordability, and more.
· Sponsorships – If you are a senior living product or service and are looking for a great sponsorship opportunity to directly connect nationally with the architecture industry, reach out, we have many virtual and in-person events. Here is a link to more information, Sponsorship Info Link
· Research – you may not know it, but we conduct research in collaboration with Perkins Eastman, who generously funds half the cost, on our award submission projects each cycle. This year we will be sending out this research in monthly releases! Stay tuned for the first cycle.
· Social media- We always strive to reach more people with our education. We are always on a mission to expand our reach and influence in the Senior Living design space. AIA DFA LinkedIn Page
