Design on the Edge: Nature and Technology in Northwest Residential Design

    September 18-22, 2024 | Seattle, WA

25 LUs anticipated | HSW TBD

Welcome to the frontier. Design in the Pacific Northwest (NW) is shaped by the convergence of the high-tech and the natural. Its economy and clientele are powered by tech giants like Amazon and Microsoft and there is a start- up spirit that inspires the design community to push the envelope. At the same time, living amid the region's mountains, forests and waters has honed its sensitivity to site and sustainability. Since at least the middle of last century, architects in the northwest have sought ways to connect with the environment through form, space, and materiality. Today, leading practitioners are testing more sustainable construction materials like mass timber and cross-laminated timber (CLT's), exploring new design tools, and experimenting with innovative zoning.

Early bird registration ends Sunday, August 18. Register today >

    Hi, Susan,

Is there more detailed information on the subject matter of the individual sessions? I've heard many of the speakers before and want to know if they're covering the same topics.

    Thanks,

The hotel registration page states that there are no rooms available. It looks like specifically Sept 18 has no rooms. I tried calling the hotel phone number and the call wouldn't go through. It rang until it just hung up.

Any update on the room block? Having the exact same problem with the hotel registration. Arriving on Wed 9/18, but for the AIA block of rooms that date is unavailable?

Hi Jackson- Unfortunately, the CRAN® room block at the Westin is sold out on Wed, Sep 18 and the hotel is not providing us with additional rooms.

    Your options are to:

    • Book Thu, Sep 19 thru departure at the Westin at the CRAN rate.
    • For Wed, Sep 18, book at the Westin at the higher rate or another hotel.
    • Book entire stay at a different hotel.

I wish I had better options for our attendees.

    Hi Susan,

Hope you are the right person to ask about the Westin Hotel.  I received a message that there will be a Hotel Union strike in Seattle soon, and one of the hotels is the Westin.

Have they said what would be the backup plan for the conference room if the strike happens during the Symposium?

Luckily due to their rooms unavailable on the 18th, I booked my room at Hotel Max, next door to the Westin.  Should we be ready to cancel our reservations if the strike happens?

    Thanks,

    Maria Walker

    Hi Maria,

Our contact at the Westin Seattle will keep us updated regarding any logistical changes they need to make should their workers go on strike.
