    Paul:

Phillip Johnson once told me that architecture was a mansion with many rooms, meaning that there was a place in the profession of architecture for many varied talents.

I am 75 years old and work full time as a project manager/construction manager responsible for $150 million of community college design-build contracts for eight separate projects with eleven different user groups.  I have never learned to create CAD documents, much less BIM models.  However I do find it very useful to know how to read such submittals, and to be able to distuingish between an excellent submittal and a poor one.

With your depth of experience in construction document production, I think you could be best utilized by performing design quality control for an architectural firm or an institutional client.  Yes, learn the principals of CAD and Revit, but don't worry about being able to create these files from scratch.  If the CDs are not coordinated or correct, no amount of computer-based delination will make them buildable.

    Good luck.
