A few weeks ago there was an ongoing discussion about fee guidelines. It is true that we are forbidden by the DOJ from publishing (i.e., by the AIA) fee guidelines for different project situations, and from colluding or otherwise fixing fees.  Nevertheless, this morning I was perusing the back of my RSMeans SF cost book.  Under "General Conditions", there is a section on Architectural Fees.  This gives fee percentages for different building types at different sizes.  Since RSMeans gathers historical cost data from all over the US and avergaes the information in order to prepare their cost data, this table seems like a pretty good starting point for working up fees.  This in no way is meant to suggest that we should follow this table to set our fees.  It is merely historical data, and as I said, a good starting point for developing our fee estimates for different projects.  Check it out.
