Luis - James we saw your program
James - Mark and James spoke about program last week, welcome everyone to forum, give sponsor a few minutes
Mark - Glenn at Hanley Wood, over 70 people RSVP'd, most people attending our event
John Isch - Greenbuild, is there someone I can hook up with, slideshow, define CRAN, most of these people here are CRAN, it's not a special club.
Hanley wood site - Mike Boyles.
Liz - make people feel they are AIA/CRAN, not standing outside
John - specific question, what ideas should we be covering - get feedback and document
James - legacy of CRAN, how it started, main points, leading up to Austin, getting bigger presence, how to join, how to find CRAN, "How to CRAN". Make a leave behind to give people for info.
Mark - Symposium next fall
James - let Bud speak, Drew w/ contracts
David - will update on plan for Joeb
Luis - call with DUO, suggest follow up to last years CORA, talk about CRAN/CORA, talk about what are about, what are goals of CRAN, then floor discussion, how can we operate together or separately. DUO discuss position paper after lunch, their approach - go to AIA. They are going outside of CRAN.
James - CORA going directly to them
Luis - what is CORA besides a position paper? Idea of luncheon to hear what they are about. Luis to take on material James and Mark putting together.
Liz - Luis, you can reconcile
Luis - will focus on goals generally
Hanley Wood, used to be very CORA centric, Reinvention put together because no outlet to residential architects, CORA program outside event, but we are inside the event.
John - expecting 120 people
Pella PRO-EXPO
Luis - Jared called about participating, they have good connection with NARI (remodelers group)
Chris - this is first time I heard of it, Pella doesn't market to architects
Luis - they have NARI, NAHB, this is their event, could be catalyst for getting more chapters going and introducing more CRAN nationally. I sent list 30 different cities. Participation largely builders, remodelers, maybe need more architects. Schedule of events 12:30 -2:30pm. Same schedule in different cities. Who can take on these markets. I will take on Houston and Dallas.
Elizabeth - willing to take on 2 cities
Chris - great to grow membership, divided by regions?
Elizabeth - I know friend in Philadelphia, not regional, but in my network
Luis - we can identify another architect to promote CRAN, not just Pella, lots of other vendors
Dawn - I've been involved for years, Mark and Luis talked to NARI, I'm involved with NARI, they can do a better job getting architects and we can help w/ this
Mark - meet with Jared on conference call to work in local, regional to promote. Set up conference call with Jared within 2 weeks.
Luis - once this is over, continue this effort, then identify chapters and regions
John - had 4 regions
Mark - Symposim
AIA-CRAN Symposium 2011 Indianapolis
Mark - dates Oct 14, 15, 16 for Symposim, a little more intimate venue, 100 participants, need a subject or theme. Might brand Symposium like Reinvention with a name.
Luis - this could be kick-off theme to stick as main name for years
Chris - sponsors to have more formalized time, more face-time with participants, Austin was great, but so much info, didn't have time to speak with sponsors.
Vendors sat there too long, have them one day, lunch and cocktail party, might move cocktail party to second night so everyone can be there
Dawn - sponsors didn't know they were able to come in and eat, tell them they are invited to meals so they have that time to mingle
Chris - we had cocktail parties, did half day of conference where sponsors could present to the 30 people in their room and got more money from sponsors. We got $18K in Charleston, 30 people 1.5 hours, 6 vendors, every other month vendors
Dawn - AIA national does dinners, we could make reservation at restaurants
Luis - tight on time in Austin, if sign up sponsors early can talk to them and get them more bang for buck
Liz - each vendor, draw your name, they want face time with each person
Dawn - from vendor perspective with NARI was not good at PRO EXPO
Remodelers and contractors - who Pella is marketing to here.
Luis - Hanley Wood providing program, Sinas - Residential Design/Build. We can piggyback on that. Email me if you are able to pick up a market.
Sponsors - assign people to get sponsors early for Indianapolis. Will email about PRO EXPO and another email Indianapolis.
Residential KC Website Discussion
Luis -David and Mark have been involved
David - awkward, goal get our own knowledge committee to get more people. I searched CRAN and more people see posts in other group. People need to choose us as a sponsor. Have priority as knowledge community. How much money is it for AIA to update website?
Luis - we need turf, need KC, Doug - can u tell us next actions we need to take?
Doug - KC is finalizing steps to what it takes to be official. Working on official next steps. Then see how many people sign up for group. Try to get as many people to join that community. Membership around 190ppl, so saw a jump in membership.
David - Catch 22, we are saying this is relevant whether 100 or 200 people, since there are no regulations can we just do it?
Doug - Group to approve is group Knowledge Committee.
David - They need to meet with us as a group, because we are relevant.
Doug - Dennis Androyco is next year's chair. I can see if I can get call with Walter and Dennis.
Luis - that's good so we can explain our thoughts.
Liz - no jobs because of economy, and still paying dues. A website is not a huge expense.
Chris - Subgroups within website
Liz -We should not have to ask for meeting with them. Why didn't they come to Austin and talking to Luis and Mark.
Doug - creating value so people will want to join AIA.
James - how many people are practicing residential architecture. Can we get those numbers? Then we can understand. I think we are large group.
David - we need direct communication. We need power and respect for all the work we are doing.
Luis- Doug will send information, we will set up conference call, I will continue this.
Chris - Planning Retreat here - they are seeing value of bringing residential architects.
WE are competing with people who are not registered.
Luis - increase membership on website, encourage people we know. Different chapters, in Austin CRAN has a website. National website - nice if has buttons to connect to local CRAN chapter.
Residential community - it's hard, good initiatives, but not getting tractions. Drew is part of this. Multifamily and production building not getting much.
Dawn - I want to start local chapter of CRAN. Do we have info to share?
Luis - there's a kit how to start a chapter. He was able to do that with success. Will email to all members.
New Orleans AIA Convention Activities
Luis- everything we submitted was accepted, we have time to organize, James participating on program.
James - we submitted and accepted, this is part of marketing, we have to increase our ego and shout louder.
Luis - I will bring up w/ CORA meeting, things we take on, continue to have a voice. We are relevant and increase each month.
Liz - I have time on my hands, so someone send me something.
Chris - we work with local AIA, look nationwide.
National AIA New Orleans - May 12-14
Scott - Topic areas - Sustainability, Stick built, Energy - topic area, sources, saw KC site topics Architects disappearing, who should we go to for topics
Luis- can we keep you informed, Scott will email CRAN group
Chris - last recession - pool of workers, national database for workers
