Hello Fellow Architects in the Housing KC and CRAN,
I don't know if any of the rest of you received the request I just saw from the White House, from an aide to the President's advisor of Regulatory Affairs. They asked for my ideas about how to "streamline, simplify and improve (governmental) rules and regulations? Which rules should be streamlined, eliminated, or made more effective? How can we reduce reporting and paperwork burdens? What are the best ways to cut regulatory costs?"
I am not a particularly big fan of this president. I think they sent this to me and probably thousands of others, because, several years ago, in a fit of idealism, I registered with the White House online and started sending them my thoughts about various things and how to make them better, from my perspective as an architect. I thought that all my ideas went down some celestial black hole, never to see the light of day, so I haven't sent them any ideas for over a year. Maybe they have some electronic counter that parses words that indicated that I had some correspondence to them with thoughtful ideas rather than hatemail. Not sure. I don't know if this is some political move, but it feels like a legitimate request for guidance from those schmoes like us, out here, just trying to earn a living.
To be honest, this request out of the blue, caught me flat-footed. I really don't know what to say. If any of the rest of you have any thoughts that you would like me to pass along, please reply back to me through one of these AIA KCs, or directly to me:
Rand@HomeArchitects.com and I'll try to present all of our thoughts back to them. Then again, perhaps I am not the only one with this "backdoor" opportunity to share our ideas, and if you all have that access, then great: go for it. I guess I am still idealistic enough to "let the miracle happen," if possible, but I don't hold my breath anymore while waiting to see the results. Thanks for your input. My best to you all; I hope this finds you with improved business and renewed spirits.
