Alas, alack, I must agree with Ralph. Until we have the legislative clout to take on the banks, going after the appraisers is like challenging a hapless counterperson at McDonalds. The banks or other investors financing large builders and land tracts are the real culprits. They are major among the reasons why there is so liittle character in the built environment since WWII. Why architects live in historic districts or older midcity suburbs. The banks have commiditized the built environment- and more recently been allowed to wreck the economy. Until an administration can foment a counterrevolution, we are not getting what we deserve, but what the 1% have ever so simplistically underwritten.
