  • 1.  My brief take on modern, traditional, and in-between...

It is the ever longing dichotomy between the science of a machine for living and art itself that is the basis for this problem. As long as "delight" remains party to Vitruvius's "Ultimate Synthesis" there will be a search for artistic paths within Architecture. Some use the past as a basis for understanding and providing datum to current archetypes while others reach forward to discover new artistic paths. At the worst of the former we have reproduction Disney set buildings and at the worst of the latter we have sculpture that has program placed upon it. Most architects use the Ultimate Syntheses to design from the middle... Freshman Theory 101! And yes, that is what most responsible architects do. And yes, that is not going to get you on the cover of Rolling Stone, or, urrr, Residential Architecture Magazine.

My response today an internal CORA thread of emails trying to understand the current state of Architecture.
