Ok. This is my first post and I just figured out how to do this!
Stuart and I had a great time at the CRAN conference in Indy.
I have no idea how the topics get selected for these conferences (I assume by committee),
but I had some ideas regarding the next conference to be held in Newport.
It would be great to get back to basics and talk about architectural theory.
That has been missing of late and I think it would be great to get away from practice and business to have discussions about "Adding on" and "Context" and "The meaning of Invention".
What is the meaning of a "traditional" architecture and how does it really differ from a "modern" architecture, or can these coexist? I know we began exploring this in the Reinvention Conference in Charlestown but this discussion goes on and on and on.
Thanks again to all those organizers of the conference.
We felt we were not ALONE!

    HI Julie,

It was nice to meet you in Indy.  As the CRAN Rhode Islander, I will be working on the Newport Symposium for next fall and we appreciate all ideas regarding it's content.... and further any suggestions for wonderful speakers!

The roots of CRAN are really born in a new found respect for judging architecture on content without any respect to style. So, what does this mean with regards to modern vs. traditional?  At what point do we have a responsibility to use the local culture, vernacular, and scale of surrounding buildings into account in our design, and under what conditions is it irrelevant and can we design on a blank slate?  There is much to learn!

Thank you very much for contributing to the message board. I look forward to seeing you again in Newport Rhode Island!

    Dave

    Hi Julie,

    Ditto what Dave said.

Also, I am sure that the CRANnies who will be putting together the education sessions for Rhode Island would love any help they can get with ideas for content and speakers. Would you, by any chance, be interested in serving on the education subcommittee?
