I had a thought about your comment to my blog entry regarding firing clients. You mentioned that you were working with a client who was not responding to you input and that you felt like a drasftsman working for them. I kept thinking about that situation, and I want to caution you to prepare to be blamed for problems with the design and/or execution of this clients bad ideas.
Personally, I would suggest a general statement of disclaimer
(in writing) expressing that the design ideas do not reflect your preferred choices as a design professional, and are the sole responsibility of the client. I would then follow up with a series of specific comments as each bad idea is incorporated into the design, restating that it is not a reflection of your professional preference as to design, detail, material, etc. You want to create a digital trail of clear communication that would exhonerate you in any future investigation as to why something goes wrong with the design or detailing of the project.
Good Luck! -------------------------------------------
