f you have not responded to the
CORA Position Paper because you felt that it wasn't quite "right", here is a fairly finalized draft copy that has responded to a host of suggestions, objections, and style points that have been raised by those who have responded. The Paper can be found
HEREIt is absolutely critical that we receive as many responses as possible to this memo, both pro and con. The point of sending this out was not to draw a line in the sand, but to fight the fact that many professional organizations have their head in that sand and are simply not responding to the present state of our profession. By any objective standard, there are 30% of licensed architects who are not employed today who were practicing two years ago. We are, objectively, the occupation most devastated by the present economic situation. Whether you are an architect or not, everyone involved in residential construction has been hurt by the present circumstance and, we feel, by the failures of our institutions to act in our best interests. It is time to act, to go on record that the present state of our profession has to change.
Please review the names at the bottom of the manifesto to see if anyone you have sent this to has not responded and if not, resend it to them. If you haven't already, please also send this to your local AIA chapter, and if you teach please send it to every architect you teach with and, of course, to every architect you know.
It is remarkable that we have received endorsements from unlicensed architects, home designers who do not have a professional architectural degree, and Fellows of the AIA - all part of close to 200 individuals who have responded.
Based on the quantity and quality of responses we've received, there's a very good chance we'll be at the AIA Convention in one capacity or another, and as soon as we know what that will be, you will be the first to know.
If you'd like a PDF of the Position Paper, please contact Cheryl Alison, CORA Administrator, at calison-duos@snet.net .
