    AIANY Post-Sandy Initiative: Housing Workgroup

    Dear AIA Chapters,

In response to Hurricane Sandy The AIA New York Chapter with the APA Metro Chapter and The ASLA New York Chapter are looking for best practices of how residential and mixed buildings can be built in the urban landscape that create "flood proof" accessible buildings that enhance the urban streetscape.  We are planning to have a charrette on this issue on February 23rd and before that want to collect best practices from around the country and would appreciate your help.

We are seeking to learn from the expertise of our colleagues. If you have examples of best practices of integrating flood-proof design into the urban landscape please share them with us. We are using a Word document (see below for a direct link) to create a common format for consistent information.  Please complete as much as you are able to or is applicable, or forward related information from existing materials.  If possible please send us your best practices by February 19th, 2013, so we can have them as a reference for our charrette.  We look forward to this collaboration - to increase the collective knowledge base of architectural flood design - and will share our completed documents with all who respond.
