This Cass Gilbert wood-framed church, built in 1899 and listed on the National Register, is unable to obtain grants from any governmental agency because it remains an active congregation.  The membership is mostly Sudanese refugees, who don't have the wherewithal to offer much support for the building's ongoing maintenance needs.  So I am seeking ideas for possible funding sources to submit to the church. Pictures of the church can be found online.

Michael - is it St. John the Divine you're talking about? Beautiful.

You should check out the website for Partners for Sacred Places here in Philadelphia - they also have an office in Chicago, which is closer to you.  http://www.sacredplaces.org/  They are a national non-sectarian organization devoted to helping congregations and their communities sustain and actively use older and historic sacred places.  They have a wealth of information on fundraising.  Look over the website and then give them a call.

    Hi Michael,
Christ Church Lutheran in SE Minneapolis has a non-profit "Friends of Christ Church Lutheran" established to seek fund for restoration. Will Stark (no relation) Will@StarkPreservation.com is a good contact for this. Also Bob Mack bobm@mmarchltd.com MacDonald and Mack Architects.
    Good luck,
    John

For more information, visit the Friends of Christ Church Lutheran website at www.FriendsofCCL.org.
