  • 1.  Copper-plating cast iron railing

    Posted 09-28-2011 01:37 AM

We are looking for a recommendation for a firm to restore a copper-plated cast iron railing for a historic building. There isn't anyone locally that can do this kind of work.... We can ship the components, if necessary.

Considering your location and the potential costs of shipping, has powder coating been considered?

There are a number of metallic and "chrome" options that could get the look you desire.  Here is one source with a few bronze options and a copper option - LINK.

Talking with your local powder coater may offer other options.

My firm has successfully completed numerous historic preservation projects involving copper.  We have often relied on recommendations and assistance from Mr. Larry Peters with the Copper Development Association (lpeters@cda.copper.org).  His organization may have member firms that can accomplish copper plating.

Also, Robinson Metals, Alexander City, Alabama (robinsoniron.com), is experienced in historic metals restoration, as is Historical Arts & Castings, West Jordan, Utah.
