Join APT DC for a presentation of the
Plaster Ceiling Repair, Reinforcement and Restoration Project currently underway at Washington's Union Station. The presentation will be given by Tom Whitaker from the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation and John Bowie of John Bowie Associates, the project's design lead and historic preservation architect.
Over a three-year span, plus or minus, the five bays that make up Union Station's Main Hall will have their cracks repaired. Work on Bay 1 began in May 2013 and took approximately 8 months. Construction is currently underway on Bay 2 with Bay 3 work likely to begin sometime in June. The 1907 Beaux-Arts building received some of the cracks from the 2011 earthquake; others from time. Tom and John will walk us through the process to identify the cracks and what is being done to fix them along with any other issues within the plaster ceiling.
A request for 1.5 LU/HSW from AIA for this program has been submitted. If you would like to receive CEUs for this lecture, a donation of $5 to the Founder's Fund is requested in addition to your registration.
Metered street parking is available. Please note that parking at M Street meters begins at 6:30. The program will start at 6:45. Light refreshments will be served.
