The Heritage Documentation Programs (Historic American Buildings Survey / Historic American Engineering Record / Historic American Landscapes Survey), a division of the National Park Service, is pleased to announce two drawing competitions.
2014 CHARLES E. PETERSON PRIZE COMPETITION
The Peterson Prize annually recognizes the best sets of architectural measured drawings produced by college students and submitted for the HABS Collection at the Library of Congress. The Prize, jointly sponsored with the Athenaeum of Philadelphia and the American Institute of Architects, is named in honor of Charles E. Peterson, FAIA (1906-2004), a founder of the HABS program, and is intended to increase awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of historic buildings throughout the United States.
2014 LEICESTER B. HOLLAND PRIZE COMPETITION
The Holland Prize annually recognizes the best single sheet drawing of a site appropriate for inclusion in the HABS, HAER or HALS Collection at the Library of Congress. The Prize, jointly sponsored with the American Institute of Architects, the Library of Congress, Architectural Record magazine, and the Paul Rudolf Trust, is named in honor of Leicester B. Holland, FAIA (1882-1952), head of the Fine Arts Division at the Library of Congress and first curator of the HABS Collection. The competition, open to both students and professionals, is intended to promote appreciation of historic American architecture, engineering, and landscape architecture, and to honor excellence in delineation and composition.
Information regarding these opportunities can be found on the HDP website at <http://www.nps.gov/history/hdp/competitions/index.htm>.
