The proposed 2012 IBC will include changes regarding fire-resistant penetrations and independent inspections of firestopping. Architect should be familiar with ASTM E 2174 and E 2393.
This may be a response to data showing FM/UL contractors have a 94% accuracy rate, while trade contractors have a 30%, of correctly installing firestopping.
