Substantial amounts of paper will be saved when design professionals adopt smartphones and tablets as document Presentation platforms just as they have adopted CAD systems as document Production platforms. The transition is logical. Why not move a compact version (PDF, JPG etc.) of the electronic files that are produce by our powerful office based systems to the mobile, hand held devices that are so convenient to use in the field. Smartphones and tablets are becoming more and more powerful and are already designed to present and manage images of drawings just as they handle images of the kids. It is now possible to carry around a set of construction drawings that is synced to your smartphone and tablet, and a construction manual in the form of an ebook. The variety of devices and applications that are now on the market that support this concept are easy to use, inexpensive and readily available.
