Call for aecKnowledge Editorial Committee Members
aecKnowledge is a groundbreaking knowledge-sharing platform for the architecture, engineering, construction, urban planning and allied professions launching in first quarter 2011. Founded my Michael Strogoff, FAIA, aecKnowledge has been under development for over 18 months by a team of highly creative professionals and thought leaders. We are building content and forming strategic alliances with professional organizations throughout the AEC industry to create a virtual knowledge networking site for instantly, simply and seamlessly sharing knowledge and advice and for delivering unbiased and distilled information that fosters ongoing interdisciplinary collaboration and helps professionals improve their practices and the built environment.
Our mission is to transform how architects, landscape architects, engineers, urban planners, contractors and allied professionals throughout the AEC industries collaborate with and learn from each other. A beta version is now online at www.aecKnowledge.com.
Editorial Committees
Editorial Committees serve an important role in aecKnowledge's mission of providing concise, unbiased knowledge and information that professionals can use to elevate their practices and improve the built environment. Each Editorial Committee member will actively contribute to strengthening the architecture, engineering, land use planning and construction industries by contributing insights, expertise and thought leadership by soliciting, vetting and building knowledge content, framing knowledge discussions and posing provocative questions.
Committee Structure
Each editorial committee will have a Chair and be comprised of 4 - 6 people, ideally with at least one representative from the architecture, engineering, urban planning and construction industries. Committee members are asked to make a one-year commitment as a volunteer with the option of continuing as a committee member or Chair in subsequent years.
Among the traits that aecKnowledge Editorial Committee members should possess are: a robust network of professionals and organizational contacts, an ability to think strategically, strong interpersonal and communication skills, initiative, networking skills, organizational skills, comfort with cold calling, and knowledge in one or more of the key knowledge areas below.
Editorial Committees will be formed for each of the following knowledge areas:
- Design
- Sustainability / Building Performance
- Building Technology / BIM
- Integrated Practice / Project Delivery
- Practice Management
- Building Codes / Specifications
- Business Development
- Construction Techniques
- Career Stages
- Government Affairs / Advocacy
- Furnishings and Equipment
- Products and Materials
Roles and Responsibilities
aecKnowledge Editorial Committee members should be willing to contribute 10 - 20 hours per month focused on the following activities:
1. Participate in monthly coordination conference calls.
2. Provide strategic input for making aecKnowledge the "go to" place for each knowledge area.
3. Identify thought leaders for contributing content to kTalks, kWikis and kResources.
4. Identify, solicit and evaluate content (case studies, white papers, podcasts, articles, best practices) from credible knowledge resources (organizations and individuals).
5. Monitor kWiki submissions and kQuery discussions for content and for making sure the information is unbiased, non-commercial and appropriately presented.
6. Award "credential badges" for subject matter experts
Acknowledgements
Each Editorial Committee member will be acknowledged within the "About aecKnowledge" portion of the web site and on selected outreach material, and will be credentialed within aecKnowledge as subject matter experts within his/her knowledge areas. In addition, each Editorial Committee member will receive aecKnowledge premium membership benefits for one year as these benefits are introduced.
Of perhaps most importance, Editorial Committee members will be recognized by their peers as thought leaders influencing how design professionals practice.
