  • 1.  Revit and Network Licensing

I'm upgrading to Revit and am wondering if the added convenience of network licensing is worthwhile (vs. buying standalone licenses for each each seat). We're a small firm with 4-5 seats wanting access but a budget that makes two licenses our limit at this time.
Is there any reason NOT to go the network license route?

Your most benefit from network licensing is that the software will be available to you on any machine. Stand alone licensing will limit you in your flexibility. Plus you only have to manage one license file rather than keep track of all individual numbers / serial numbers / licenses. Also if you, in the future, add on any other products they can be served by the same license file.

I have found that staff fluctuations over the years (15+) are less impactful on our software count/costs by utilizing network licensing.  We are also looking at installing Revit on machines that don't typically get it and setting the default to launch Revit files in the Revit viewer.  This give us the flexibility at the machine of having someone use it just for viewing or for making changes if needed with the same install.  The cost of switching to network licensing has increased over the years so it will probably be more down the road if you chose to switch later.
