There are many factors that will affect the decision of a Firm Owner to support membership in a Revit User Group. Our office has had the software for about 2 years installed on all the computers in the office (we have an 8 person office) with hopes that someone would show interest and start using it. Part of the my (Owner) decision making process is reviewing the interest of the staff over an above the normal 8 to 5 work hours. Is the staff member willing to work on their own time to learn, after all this is self development as well? Are the user groups after hours? Is the staff member willing to share the learning with the office? Can it be applied directly to an office project? By the way, our office works only on laptops, to provide an opportunity to develop beyond the office.
As a firm owner, I would gratefully support and pay for membership in a Revit Users group, IF the answer to the above questions where all yes. So motivation and initiative play huge roles in making this determination.
