Back in 1986 I attended a seminar given by a chap named Chief Boyd (he evidently was of Native-American descent), and he and 4 partners had an architectural firm with no designers. They did everything themselves, each guy managed his own projects, and did all of the drawings. This was all possible because they had adopted CAD firm wide. If they needed any help at crunch time, the other partners pitched to get the drawings done. This meant that the additional help knew how to detail a building, and they had confidence that everything would be put together properly. They had no need for "designers" or draftsmen.
I recognized then that this was the future of the profession, it just has taken a long while for everyone else to catch on. I also wondered how the future generation of architects was going to learn their profession. Now we know that it will be difficult.
