I (virtually) attended a recent webinar titled "BIM for Renovations and Retrofits" that demonstrated an add-on software program that worked with Revit to greatly speed up the modeling process working off of cloud laser scans. Revit 2012 has added cloud tools but they thought their system did better job including identifying planes of cloud points where you can adjust the tolerances so it picks up the planes you see or know that are there. They were using an impressive scan of an existing site exterior site nad building modeling and I'm sure the presenter knows scanning companies they can recommend.
