    Phil,

In a Design/Bid/Build arrangement, where the Architect does not have an agreement with the Contractor, I would ask the Owner how they would like to honor a request for you as the Architect to provide BIM Models to the Contractor.

I have found that the AIA's [ACG's] newest Design/Build & Integrated [Collaborative] Project Delivery Contract Families have covered the use of BIM Models by Design and Construction Professionals in more depth. These Agreements can be executed with BIM Work [Execution] Plan Exhibits to define rights, responsibilities, expectations and indemnifications related to accessing and/or exchanging BIM Models.

It is interesting to note that these latest AIA Design Build & Integrated Project Delivery Agreements now list "Dedicated Extranets" as an additional service to be provided by either the Architect or the Contractor. When Dedicated Extanets are provided, BIM Models are hosted on a project network (LAN) shared by all Design and Construction Professionals.
