It is now possible to carry around a set of drawings on your handheld device. It is possible to call up a floor plan, sketch a change to a door location, save it and email it off to the office or the contractor. It is possible to take a photograph of a job condition, add notes to the image that document field instructions and again copy team members. And it is possible to produce a punch list there in the palm of your hand while you are walking the project. Applications that can perform these functions are in Apple's App Store and they have been developed by an architect with 35 years of experience.
Architects have the design skills, the technical expertise and the management and marketing ability to make the development of applications for smartphones a new service for their clients. The development of new products and services for new markets is how we are going to reinvigorate our industry.
