Hey Charles G. (O'Neal),
I've been using Archicad now for about 8 years, still can't admit to being at a super pro level. Here's my view of Views updating. There are three way to 'see' your model or the presentation of your model in 2D.
1- The Project Map provides a tree structure of the components (viewpoints) of your Virtual Building Model. This is where the bulk of the work is done on the 3D model. If you change any part of the model, on a plan view, an elevation view, building or detail section view, or in a 3D view - the change across the board is instantaneous in all the other model views.
2- The View Map structure. A View is a stored version of a Viewpoint; each view is defined by its adjustable View Settings that you configure for a particular purpose for display of your Virtual Building model. This is where the specific parameters (scale, pen set, . . . ) of the view are set so to display it as you need to in your plotted/printed output. The Views here are also updated instantaneously when any part of the model changes, either in the Project Map model or in the View Map 'picture' of the model, across the board in all Views.
3- The 'views' that sometimes need to be updated are those placed as
window views in a Layout Book, the output format, i.e. a plotted or printed sheet. Mostly these views in the Layout Book update automatically along with any changes to the model. Rarely it requires clicking a selection in a pop-up pallet to update a particular view in the layout book display. I have never seen this as a very serious waste of time or a deficiency, a minor annoyance when it has to be done by selecting an option to do so in a popup window. I have not yet figured out why this sometimes happens.
