One of the great things about being a designer is that nobody can ever get a clean punch. We are far too mushy a group for that. It would take a far more jingoistic crowd to ever get any vibration. Those cartoons Mr. Dowling presented are a classic case and point. Love those.
Since humor has been a recent topic, I would highly recommend that everybody read the classic by Adolf Loos: "Oranament and Crime." I always assume everybody has read it, but in case you haven't, it's well worth digging up. One of my all time favorites. It is simply amazing how long ago that article was written, yet, still sounds like yesterday. If memory serves me correctly, I believe it's from around 1908 or maybe 1910. Somewhere in there. Loos has design humor with a point.
