I posted my intention to allow my AIA membership to expire in December. Since then, I received the suggestion that I apply for Emeritus status. I have done this. It turns out that I have a 3 year lapse in my 20+ year membership, when I was employed by a firm that did not support the AIA and I could not afford the membership dues. I explained all of this to the "General Council" in 2 detailed letters. I have been denied Emeritus status.
I still have not received any new work since June of 2010, and I only have 2 jobs, one under construction. I am not feeling that the combined burden of dues and CEUs is worth the benefits that I am receiving from the organization. This blog has been my most active and beneficial involvement to date. I am therefore signing off and wishing all of you the best in your personal transitions and evolutions through whatever "recovery" is in store for us all.
I will continue designing from my solar-powered Airstream trailer, and I am considering starting a new business called "The Spirit of the Nest" where I will offer consultation and hand's on home care to a greatly under served clientele. Look for me on line, on facebook, and at my new web site
www.spiritofthenest.com.
