    I would hope you would reconsider.  The AIA dues are very high for small firm genernal practitioners in this economic time.  Allowing monthly payments has helped somewhat, but the AIA could do more. Lower the cost by half if a member is having  a limited practice due to a specialty or billing.

    I have a love hate relation with the continuing educational requirements.  As a conscientious architect as most of you are spending hours and hours monthly doing research on materials, systems, design, sustainability, etc. Usually in far greater detail then the "typical" class being offered.  Fortunatly as or late our local AIA (Portland, Oregon) has greatly stepped up the class's  academic and practicability standards  so that i feel like i am actually learning.

    Perhaps working with your local AIA could get you classes that are appropriate for you, most likely many ohters in your area would benefit.
