Dear Michael,
I was surprised at the last part of this portion of your post:
///I've been hearing that architects and architecture are disappearing throughout my career as an architect, starting during a welcome presentation to the arriving freshmen architects at Washington University in St. Louis in 1957. ///
If I may ask, what specifically was the reason for their concern back at that time in 1957?
Similarly, back in 1982, during our welcome orientation presentation at The Ohio State University, the Dean of the School of Engineering told us: "We do not encourage anyone to go into architecture. There is simply no money in it."
After meeting directly with the Dean and my father (an EE), the conclusion was if the student was passionate about studying architecture, then she should pursue it and let nothing stand in her way.
I am interested in your response to the above question, when you have time.
Thanks,
Tara
