I agree with the idea that the institute should be working to create value for the profession as the stewards of the interests of the client within the construction process. However, to do this effectively, architectural education will need to be turned on its ear and more time spent teaching construction practices and common sense.
Part of the reason our profession has lost relevance is the lack of effective knowledge on the job site exhibited by many architects. We are often seen as detached, unrealistic, and ignorant to the realities of building. A fair assessment I fear. The institute should become an effective technical resource, and be a proponent for architects having to work on job sites for a minimum of one year prior to being qualified to sit for the exam.
