Be careful we are not talking about apples and oranges here. The contractor might get a discount on materials and appliances he purchase for your job. He might or might not pass on that discount to the owner. Typically his over head and profit is based on the total cost of the job. If the total cost is based on the real price of materials and appliances, but he gives you his discount - you are still paying over head & profit on the full cost. This contract can be worked many different ways including cost/plus. Make sure that all expenses are laid out for all to see and understand before signing anything.
