This message has been cross posted to the following Discussion Forums: Residential Knowledge Community and CRAN Custom Residential Architects Network .

CRAN Steering Committee: Request for Submissions for sessions to 2012 AIA Convention in Washington DC. Since recently becoming our own Knowledge Community CRAN is stepping up their activity in bringing relevant and quality content to the custom single family residential architect. For the past five years the CRAN Committee has structured and grown the number of sessions each year at Convention with the goal of giving residential architects a reason to participate in their national convention. We now want to open up the possibility for submitting a session to everyone practicing residential architecture and really grow that content and in turn demonstrate to the National leadership we are relevant. If you would like to submit a session, or know of someone who would be appropriate to provide a session, please reply to this posting. The Committee will review requests, in order to avoid duplication and try to assure quality of content. Do not feel intimidated by the process, we have several Committee members who can help guide you through the process, which is not overly cumbersome. Since this is our first attempt at opening this up we do not know what numbers of responses we will get but we will do our best to respond to all requests. It is also not guaranteed that all submission will be accepted given that the final selection process is not made by our Committee. Deadlines for initial ideas and abstracts, which are submitted electronically, is July 1, 2011.

Keep in mind all content, for any Knowledge Community, comes from its membership. Their is no AIA staff whose duty it is to generate content, in the form of Sessions, for any constituency, so please become involved!

See our CRAN web page, at:http://network.aia.org/AIA/ResidentialKnowledgeCommunity/Home/CustomResidentialArchitectsNetwork/Default.aspx
for a list of CRAN Committee members if you want to contact one them directly.

Regarding content addressed to residential architects, certainly one of the best sessions I attended at the recent AIA National Convention in New Orleans was a presentation put on by two architects on the use of BIM in residential architecture.  One architect was from New Jersey and the other was from California.  Both run small design-build practices.  Another was Michael Willis' presentation on the redevelopment of of the Treme Lafitte neighborhood in New Orleans.

    Michael,

Thank you for taking the time to comment on those sessions. Your comments have been passed along to the BIM Speakers, who are both great guys doing good work. We hope to continue to bring quality content at next years Convention too.

    Thanks, Michael.

Actually, every AIA member will have a chance to view and receive CE credit for that session, BIM for Residential Architecture? A Small Firm Primer, through AIA Virtual Convention. The recordings will be posted in June and we will send out a reminder when it's available. For now, you can download the PowerPoint handout for the session and post questions and thoughts on the discussion forum.

All the AIA 2011 National Convention session handouts are located on the AIA website. We'd love to hear what other topics you'd like to see in at the AIA 2012 National Convention or as a free webinar in 2011.
