Agreed, there is a need to communicate the value of an architect to the general public.  The vast majority of the public have not had any contact with an architect in a professional sense.  If the public forms an opinion of the architectural world based upon reading about the outrageous buildings they have read about, they understandably avoid hiring an architect.
What is needed is a TV series and even a network that features the dramatic process of designing and building  by a client and an architect.    It would be as popular if not more popular than "This Old House", and the programs on HGTV.     The interest is there.     Could or would the AIA initiate it?

I think the idea of producing a TV show is an excellent one. It could be started on a small scale, maybe a series of six to ten episodes on a cable network and then expanded as experience merits. It does seem like this is something that the AIA could find funds in their budget that would provide marketing benefit to residential and other small firms.
