Tom -- Just checked your profile. You and I were at the U of M architecture school at the same time. Looks like you're 1 or two years ahead of me there. I've worked at big and small firms and worked with plenty of people without licenses who make the same excuses you do. But, seriously, If you If you have a masters in architecture and you've been practicing for 14 years - stop making excuses for not getting your license. There's really no good excuse anymore. I'll guarantee that while studying for the exams you'll learn (or re-learn) a whole lot of things that will make you a better designer and a more competent professional.
I took one exam a month for 9 months and had my license just before my 29th b-day. The longer you wait the harder it will be to motivate.
After graduation, I worked for a guy at the University of Michigan's Facilities Planning and Design who had been practicing for over 30 years. He failed one part of the exam a long long time ago and never went back to finish. He regretted it every day.
Schedule 1 new exam for yourself for a month from now and just do it.
