    Waterless urinals - 0 gal
    Urninals - 0.5 gal per flush
    Flushing toilets - 1.6 gal per flush
    Shower - 6 to 12 gal per shower
    Car wash - 20 to 30 per wash
    Open fire hydrant on hot summer day to cool kids - 150 gal per minute

    Men may pee 5 times a day, but do they flush every time? What is the water conservation motto? “If its pee let it be, if it’s brown flush it down.”

    I was appointed to a 5 member committee to review U S grants applications for a 5 states region in the 70 's. 
    Two of the members on this committee instructed there families and friends to flush only on the second flush requirement. 
    I think this also will save a lot of water but I also think this also stinks.

    Long ago ('50s - '60s), I, a city guy, was introduced to the "If it's yellow, let it mellow; if it's brown, flush it down" concept.  This was in a cottage-on-septic situation, where its impact was immediate and clear, with no shortage of olfactory evidence if not maintained. 
     
    But, living in a city with a big sewage-treatment facility, my wife and I use the same approach.  Water is water, no matter where, and minimizing its use is still critical.  Also, not to be too indelicate, if we are having BMs in quick sequence, we can flush once for both.
     
    We have never had problems with odors, in any normal frequency-of-use situation.  If we're going out for 8-or-10 hours or more, sure, we flush where needed.  And, there does not seem to be any difference in frequency-of-cleaning, of the toilet bowl.

    Richard H. Linderman, has good information: waterless is the best option to save water.

    The question is find what is required to maintain such urinal functioning.

    The great think is that thanks to the AIA, any architect can help and solve the need to save water.

    The water conservation motto, to me, is use the water to grow food instead of fusing urine.

    More ideas welcome.
