Please join the Boston Society of Architects Housing Committee on September 26, 2013 at 8:00 AM at the BSA to discuss various strategies and the role of design to support rural and suburban communities striving to create affordable housing in Massachusetts.

RSVP to: rsvp@architects.org (include "Housing Committee 9/26" in subject line)
Approximately 60,000 new affordable housing units would have to be created across Massachusetts, in order for every community to have 10% of their housing stock affordable to low-income households, as mandated by Ch. 40B MGL. Some communities would have to create about 100 new affordable housing units to meet this goal, while others would have to build close to or more than 1,000 new affordable housing units. This challenge is particularly daunting in rural and suburban communities with no access to public water and sewer, predominantly zoned for single-family use and seeking to preserve and create open space.
