I am overwhelmed with the responses I have received after posting this first message last Friday.  Thanks to all who have taken time to share your support and reactions to my ideas, and thanks for several constructive ideas regarding my membership and CE credits.  I am planning several specific actions in response:

First, I am applying for a membership upgrade to Emeritus status, which will end my dues and CE requirements.

Second, I plan to contact the AIA CE organization and begin working on alternative methods for securing on-site, hands-on experience in addition to / or in lieu of classroom and on-line learning.

Third, I plan to write more to this forum about my experience, ideas and perspective regarding residential design and small firm issues.

I received many messages from small-firm practitioners from all parts of the US and even from Europe! Even though I have attended many AIA meetings and conventions, this is the most one-on-one connection I have ever experienced in the AIA.  I never expected a response like this.

    Thank you!
