    Most in the Baltimore metro area complain that we don't have a "real" transit system. In fact, the lack of  "good" transit is the top complaint registered by members of the Downtown Partnership. This, although the MTA transports some 370,000 riders every (work) day and is ranked by APTA as the #10 transit system in the nation in terms of ridership in relation to population. This begs the question, what makes a "real" transit system?

    This week I participated in two events to address this question. One was a local radio talk show about the $2.5 billion Baltimore Red Line light rail project. In the other I was invited to speak to the Baltimore Transportation Choices workgroup,  mostly business people about:

    "Modes and choices that together make a real transit system".
