The CAE has had an ongoing and long term relationship with the National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities (NCEF), part of the
National Institute of Building Sciences. Judy Marks, the NCEF Director posed this question and I thought it might generate some interesting information. Judy can be contacted at
jmarks@nibs.org.
Does building schools to acoustical standards cost more? Do you have information that can show the differences in building construction costs of new K-12 schools designed to meet ANSI/ASA S12.60, National Standard Acoustical Performance Criteria, Design Requirements and Guidelines for Schools or LEED for Schools, compared to project costs for new schools that do not meet those standards? The National Institute of Building Sciences is interested in this information. It would be useful if you could identify schools as elementary, middle or high schools, and include the year of construction and the building construction cost per square foot. It would also be helpful for you to provide the project location (e.g., city and state). If designed to LEED for Schools, indicate certified, silver, gold or platinum. -------------------------------------------
