The New Haven School Construction Program has been responsible for the preservation and continued use of a number of older schools in New Haven, Connecticut, supported by the state of Connecticut's "Renovate as New" funding initiative. Roth and Moore Architects (now Roth Moore and Kagan LLC) contributed to this program with the complete renovation and restoration of the Fair Haven Middle School c. 1920, including the terra cotta clock tower with new mechanical clockworks and chimes as neighborhood landmark, and 1500-seat auditorium for school and community use. The new Worthington Hooker School repurposed a Douglas Orr Christian Science church (c.1950) as auditorium, with restored organ for community performances and student instruction, and cafeteria. The robust construction of these structures were worthy of the extensive renovation required to accommodate today's educational programs.
