April Update from your Chair
Hey everyone! Save the Date - November 9-11, 2011
Guess what? CAE's fall conference dates and locations are now final!
Here's the scoop - CAE members will be gathering in London, England next November 9-11 for a terrific conference you will love! Start planning now. If you've been to an international CAE conference, you know how exciting, enriching, and stimulating they are - if you haven't, please join us and find out.
Yes, I know that it can seem intimidating to travel abroad for a conference, but it actually costs just a little more than a domestic airline ticket, it's a wonderful opportunity to see new things, and what's really great about it is the chance to exchange ideas with international colleagues. I've been to CAE conferences in Amsterdam and Helsinki, and I can assure you the experience will change your life, professionally AND personally, for the better.
Let me tell you why we have selected the UK for this year's conference. Back in 2006, at the CAE conference held in Washington DC, we first learned about the plans that the UK had for rebuilding/replacing/renovating their existing aging school facility infrastructure. It was a plan for an amazing transformation in that country. Two years ago, in Helsinki, CAE members spent an afternoon learning about some of the first facilities that have come out.
Our CAE conference planning committee, along with the BCSE, (our partners in this conference, the British Council for School Environments), is firming up the speakers and the tours right now - topics will include current educational facility design, and the future of our schools on both sides of the Atlantic. The conference will include tours of award winning academic environments by world renowned architects. Stay tuned and keep checking our CAE webpage for more info!
The Near Future - Events & Programs
What's coming up?!
Plan to join us in Chicago next week for the School and College Building Expo 2011. The CAE provides the programming for this conference, and it's going to be excellent! Also, the winning projects for this year's AIA CAE Awards program will be announced at the Spring Conference.
In May, I hope you are all planning to arrive at the AIA National Convention a day early for the pre-convention tour of innovative learning environments around the New Orleans area. It's going to be terrific!
My best to you,
