  • 1.  PreK-12 Subcommittee Conference call invitation

    Posted 02-15-2011 01:10 PM

    Hello everyone,

I would like to extend an invitation to all CAE members who wish to get involved with the PreK-12 sub-committee to join us for our next monthly conference call.  We have scheduled the conference call for Friday February 18th at 11:00 EST.  We have approximately 20-25 spots available for the call and hope you will be able to participate in the discussion about our current and future activities.  We are looking for potential topics of discussion and volunteers to advance these topics further.  If you have a topic (or several) that you are interested in please send me an email and we will put them in on our agenda for the meeting.

    The proposed agenda is:

    1.       Welcome and Introductions

    2.       Generate content for membership:

    -          Method for making assignments to membership to achieve this goal.

o        Please think about where you can contribute.  We need volunteers!!!

    -          Reasonable expectations on frequency and quality of content for e-mail blast:

o        The CAE Leadership Group would like to send email blasts out on a monthly basis.  All of the subcommittees will be contributing content.

    -          Is the content posted in the Article of the Month on the CAE KNet website useful?

    3.       Potential topics

            1. How are teachers taught to use technology in the classroom? - Brian Minnich
            2. How the President's Wireless Network initiative (WIN) might influence school planning.  (It is likely to be one of the survivors of the budget process.) - Jacqueline DeGarmo
            3. Update on the No Textbook School - Lea Cromwell
            4. How has the current state of the economy changed the planning priorities of school districts?  (For example have school districts moved from a 20 year remodel cycle to a 40 year remodel cycle?)
            5. Additional topics?

                 4.      Linkedin Review

    -          Should we move the Linkedin discussions over to the AIA CAE KNet website?

    5.       Conclusions:

    -          CAE Spring and Fall Conference (with School Building Expo in Chicago in April and, you are the first to know ... the fall 2011 conference will be November 9-11, 2011 in London, co-produced with the British Counsel for School Environments).

We had a good conference call.  Here are some of the topics we discussed.
    1. Possibility of reaching out to local AIA chapters that may have K-12 subcommittees.
    2. How teachers are taught to use technology in the classroom?
    3. How the Presidents's Wireless Network Initiative (WIN) might influence school planning?
    4. An update on the No Textbook School.
    5. How has the current economy changed the planning priorities of school districts?

We also discussed the upcoming School Building Expo in Chicago this April.

Our next conference call will be held on March 25th at 11:00 am EST.

Also, several people have sent me messages stating that they would like to volunteer to help out with the subcommittee.  If you have sent me a message and have not received a copy of the meeting minutes please sent me another note and include your email address so that I can add you to the list.  You can find my email address below.

    Thanks,
