I am glad that the idea of maker space has entered architect's idea of school design. There are so many other aspects besides classroom that support learning now. I think it is great that you attended a workshop on learning and learning spaces as it is critical to rethinking learning environments. I hope you consider watching the CAE webinars on Cultivating Outdoor Classrooms, too. Schools and learning environments will be transformed in the next 20 years.

I just returned from a 3-day seminar at Harvard Graduate School of Education that brought together about 200 architects and academic professionals. High Tech High designers were among the presenters, with words like tinkering, maker space and flexibility among the most frequently used. Those words came from the academic presenters and the architects who have had a chance to have the opportunity to work with school officials and communities to create such learning spaces. Not many examples built yet in use, but as the education of teachers, administrators and architects spreads the word, these ideas could really become a part of the education of our kids.
