Profile: Energy Leadership Group

The American Institute of Architects Energy Leadership Group (AIA ELG) has been formed to coordinate, align, and advance the array of energy-related activities of the AIA and thereby optimize building environmental benefits. Buildings are both the origin of and the solution to significant global warming impacts; the AIA ELG is providing high-level advice and direction for building solutions.

These actions support the achievement of the AIA position statement’s goals of carbon neutral buildings and achieving the 2050 Imperative by engaging diverse member perspectives and experience with energy in the built environment. In addition, we coordinate and communicate strategy with key stakeholder groups and staff members through committee liaisons and outreach. Our membership includes representatives from AIA Codes and Standards Committee, the Committee on the Environment (COTE), Architecture 2030, the Large Firm Roundtable (LFRT), the AIA 2030 Commitment Working Group, and other relevant stakeholders.

Our activities this year include developing a policy commentary on buildings and climate and working towards accelerating the adoption of current energy building codes. Our Fall 2016 meeting will focus on developing policy priorities for both the near and far term.
