Jane McGarry | CAE Spring Conference 2017 | AIA Knowledge Scholarship Recipient

My interest lies in the field of Education Design and applying 21st Century learning to new and refurbished facilities. Recently I have returned to Australia and have been leading a local team on various school delivery projects. My international experience working abroad in the UK and the USA has further contributed to my fascination of learning and regionalism.

The CAE Portland conference will give me the opportunity to experience first-hand the development of a new educational architecture responding to the unique character of the region. Knowledge gleaned from the facilities tours, speakers and panel discussions will be shared with my local team, currently responsible for the design of multiple new school buildings and upgrade projects throughout the Sydney region. Contextual approaches and parallels between the Pacific North West and Australia will be transferrable to my current work which will directly affect upwards of 2500 students within the next three years.

The opportunity to cross-pollinate ideas from different nations and regions addressing the architectural requirements for the successful implementation of contemporary education models, will further enrich my work, the knowledge-base of my practice and influence the legacy of our designs for the future students attending school at the new facilities.
