The U.S. Southeast is reeling from Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton damage and loss. These storms have hit close to home and we stand with our preservation partners in this region.
The AIA is actively working with state and local chapters to support impacted communities. For more information on the AIA resources, please visit https://www.aia.org/resource-center/aia-disaster-assistance-program-updates
In addition, the Association for Preservation Technology International (APTI) is active in these efforts. The Disaster Response Initiative Task Group (DRI), formed in 2017 is a group spearheaded by the Preservation Engineering Technical Committee (PETC) of the APTI and aims to aid local and federal governments and like-minded organizations currently involved in disaster response. If you have been impacted or wish to help, please direct requests for assistance or offers to volunteer to dri@apti.org. The DRI is interested in design professionals who are willing to volunteer their time and/or services (the DRI can provide a gift-in-kind form so that design firms can get documentation for tax purposes). This would allow people affected to get some limited design services (ex: temporary shoring recommendations).
